Where There Is Smoke, There is Damage

‘Tis the Season for…fires. According to the National Fire Protection Agency, “Winter is the peak season for U.S. home fires; cooking and heating are the leading causes.”

In addition, candle, decoration and Christmas tree fires peak in December.” That does not mean your business is safe either, how many of your employees use space heaters under their desk (if I’m being honest, I have one on right now)?

There are several ways to minimize fire risk for your home or business including:

  • Don’t leave food that is cooking unattended
  • Never leave burning candles unattended
  • Don’t overburden electrical outlets
  • Install and test smoke alarms throughout the home or facility
  • Learn how and when to use a fire extinguisher
  • If appropriate for the facility, install a sprinkler system

What if the unthinkable happens, what can YOU do to minimize the damage done to the property? First things first, ensure the health and safety of all occupants and stay away from the area where the fire originated.

  • Secure the facility. Call us to help with the temporary board up of any exposed areas then we can begin the restoration process.
  • Contact your insurance agent, he or she can help you with coverage and claim information.
  • Do not use electrical appliances until having them checked.
  • Turn off heating or A/C system to prevent spreading soot.
  • Identify rush items that need to be restored most quickly.

Blackmon Mooring & BMS CAT are the experts in fire damage restoration, we have been doing it since 1948. Once you call us to the facility, we will physically inspect and document the affected areas and damage. A Scope of Work for the damaged areas will be developed and provided to the customer.

Because water is necessary to extinguish a fire, removing water is the first step in the restoration process. Debris and affected materials are removed from the facility. All traces of soot and smoke will be removed from floors, ceiling, walls and any other affected areas. By using approved solutions and products, we neutralize corrosive residual compounds.

An odor is always a concern when a fire has occurred. There are several methods to remove orders from a structure, we always take special care to address the HVAC system, which can easily spread odors and affected particles throughout a facility.

Of course, we follow IICRC guidelines to ensure that all fire and water damage restoration is performed accordingly. IICRC states: “Professional restoration technicians understand the need for quick response. Immediate remediation is key to controlling any escalating costs. The longer the remediation is delayed, the higher the cost of restoration.”

Hopefully, you never have a need to call us for fire damage restoration, but if you do, rest assured you are calling the experts at [bpl_main_phone]!
